Goat Creek Retreat

Description:

A newly constructed cabin with two bedrooms and a bunk room. Sited in a forested location in the upper Methow Valley.

Vision:

Create a peaceful cabin that has open family spaces and private rooms. Nest-like structural geometry evokes clarity and honesty.

Planning:

The cabin is organized to frame forested views in all directions. The first floor is open and connected for communal for family retreat life. The second floor contains individual sleeping rooms and a special bunk/playroom.

Design:

The family rooms are designed on the south side, with large deep-set windows to collect winter light while sheltering the interior from summer sun. Windfall trees from the site provide central support and “anchor” the cabin. Local, reclaimed materials were repurposed for flooring, decking, counters, furniture and trim.
